Job Description
The Emergency Department Technician assists medical and nursing staff in delivering patient care in a fast-paced emergency department environment. This role involves performing clinical tasks, patient monitoring, and administrative duties to support efficient patient flow and high-quality emergency care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
- Monitor and record vital signs and report significant changes to RN or physician.
- Perform EKGs, phlebotomy, specimen collection, and point-of-care testing.
- Assist with wound care, splinting, and orthopedic procedures.
- Provide CPR and assist during codes or emergency interventions.
- Transport patients, equipment, and specimens within the hospital.
- Maintain cleanliness and stock supplies in patient care areas.
- Document care and procedures in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Adhere to infection control, safety, and hospital policies and procedures.
- Support nursing and physician staff with various patient care tasks.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Completion of an accredited EMT, Paramedic, or Patient Care Technician program preferred.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
- Previous experience in a hospital or emergency department setting is an advantage.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and basic patient care techniques.
